The Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) for Energy Rating of Dwellings is the Government’s methodology for calculating the energy performance of dwellings within the UK and is compliant with the requirements of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD).
In accordance with the Building Regulations, SAP energy assessments are produced to demonstrate compliance. In addition, all new homes now require an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) upon sale or let.
Only qualified, On-Construction Energy Assessors (OCEA) can produce both SAP calculations and EPCs. OCEAs produce calculations that are based on a range of factors which contribute to the energy efficiency of a building, using approved software (e.g. FSAP).
These factors include: building materials, main and secondary heating systems, heating controls, ventilation and renewable technologies.
An OCEA will fully understand these factors within the calculation which will enable them to consult and assist with the design of the development.
The Code for Sustainable Homes provides a comprehensive measure of the sustainability of new homes, ensuring that sustainable homes deliver real improvements in key areas such as carbon dioxide emissions and water use. The Government’s ambition for the Code is that it becomes the single national standard for the design and construction of sustainable homes, and that it drives improvements in home building practice.
The Code for sustainable homes covers nine categories of sustainable design including:
• Energy and CO2 Emissions
• Water
• Materials
• Surface Water Run-off
• Waste
• Pollution
• Heath and Wellbeing
• Management
• Ecology.
We provide Code for Sustainable Homes assessments and advice for both private and social housing developments.
If involved at design stage, we identify various measures which, incorporated seamlessly into the construction process, can facilitate cost-effective and efficient achievement of the target Code for Sustainable Homes level. This minimises the risk of having to take expensive and time-consuming measures post-construction in an attempt to achieve the desired rating.
Our scope of services covers:
•Strategic advice
•Design advice
•Pre-assessments
•Post-construction assessments
